Kanye...Blonde-dyke? Banned?

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)
Below you will find a passage of lyrics from the new Kanye West song "Stronger."  I have issue with the FCC.  Have you noticed that besides the fact that lyricists don't even know how to spell the word "dyke", the FCC has banned the word from being sung on the radio!  During this track, which is played constantly on radio stations across the United States, the word "dyke" is silenced!!  I find that to be absolutely ridiculous compared to some of the words they do allow on the radio.  Not to mention that if the United States Patent and Trademark office can grant dykesinthecity a trademark for the use of the word "dyke" in a for profit business, then they can allow the word on the radio!!!!  I suppose this could be my next fight.  Unfortunately we are not talking about rocket science lyrics here with Kanye's song to get the word approved on the radio, but it is the principle of the matter.  Any thoughts ditc public???????

So how the hell could you front on me?
 There's a thousand you's, there's only one of me
I'm trippin', I'm caught up in the moment right?
This is Louis Vuitton Don night
So we gonna do everything that Kan like
Heard they'd do anything for a Klondike

 "Well I'd do anything for a blonde-dike"

And she'll do anything for the limelight
And we'll do anything when the time's right
Ugh, baby, you're makin' it (harder, better, faster, stronger)

P-town continues

Okay so the rest of the P-town excursion went really well.  I tried super hard to make it to the underwear contest at the Pied on Saturday night but just missed it.  Every year I say i am going to participate in the underwear contest because years back I encountered my most embarrassing moment in life at that party.  Suzanne Westenhoefer basically single handedly changed my life forever.  If I ever get inspired, I will tell the story.  I am not feeling the utter humiliation right now in order to go into it.  Just know that I need to one day reenter that contest with all of my proper dignity.   Nonetheless, it was a fun time had by all at the Pied and on to the after hours at just about the coolest house party I have ever been to.  DJ Susan Morbido owns the most amazing living room equipped with strobe lights, fog coming up from the floor, and a full DJ set up.  Unbelievable.  It was like a circuit party in this girl's living room.  So we all hung out through the night.  Thankfully I did not have to wake up early the next day.  Sunday was pretty sweet.  I decided to get my rook and daith pierced by my friend Aimee, the infamous Bearded Lady.  I believe the daith was possibly my most painful piercing ever.  Ugh, that hurt!!!!!  But Toni was there to almost hold my hand!  I had to be tough and not hold anyone's hand.  You know how that goes.  Instead I squeezed a stress chicken.  Kind of like a stress ball but in the shape of a chicken if you are wondering.  Very pleased with my new piercings, I came back to the house and had a cocktail with Chuck and Kimber and got ready to go to a comedy show with Aimee and Toni.  The show was Marga Gomez and she ruled.  The crowd was completely spirited and into it and Marga was funny as hell.  Finally, on Monday morning,  I end Provincetown week by eating Ben & Jerry's free ice-cream for breakfast and caravaning back to the New York area with Toni. Toni, thanks for the very memorable caravan away from the town of P.   All in all, a very satisfying Women's Week excursion.  I recommend it to all!   Especially if you are a woman...
P-town is one of the most amazing places on earth.  It is like disneyland for many dykes.  A place where most everyone feels free to be themselves.  Provincetown, MA is not only comfortable for all walks of life, it is absolutely beautiful and serene and magical.  This place brings out a lot of emotion in me.  This trip for me brought back a lot of memories of the last six years of my life.  Erin's dads have lived in P-town all the years we were together.  So mostly every trip to P-town has been with her.  This time around, I went to stay with Erin's dads without her for the first time since our relationship ended.  I guess the amazing thing about lesbian relationships are the ties we can still keep to one another and family after the relationship ends.  I was a little nervous about staying here, but convinced it was a good decision.  I love her dads like my own family.  Nearing the end of my trip now, I realize what a perfect decision it was.  It was great to catch up with Chuck and Kimber and a way to begin to form a new and different relationship with them.   I am grateful to have been a part of her family.

On a different note, I will tell you about my stay here in P-town in regards to dykesinthecity.  Every year we sell at the Unitarian Craft Fair.  P-town is teaming with dykes of all ages all over Commercial Street.  Performers from womyn w/ guitars to poets to comedians are performing all day long in the various venues in town.  It is amazing how many shows are put on in this one week.  What a brilliant display of talent and sisterhood.  Everyone should come to P-town at some point during a women's week to check it all out.  Arriving on Thursday night, I was greeted on Commercial Street by Ami (the fabulous bearded lady) and we did some catching up.  I continued the night at Spiritus eating the long awaited Spiritus pepperoni pizza.  I was lucky enough to dine with Zoe Lewis, a very talented performer.  I entered the Pied bar party hosted by Lynette and Girl Power events and enjoyed shots bought for me by the Baltimore crew Vera, Wendy and Christina... one too many lemon drops girls...  Everyone danced and enjoyed the spanking contests and I decided I better hit the sack because I needed to wake up at the crack of dawn for the Craft Fair.   Walking home I encountered the most beautiful thunder and lightning storm I have seen in a long time.

It seems that every time I enter the craft fair, the weather is ridiculously poor.  No exception this time around.  Raining on and off all day, the weather was miserable and all the vendors outside were freezing cold.   I was super excited to see two good vendor friends of mine from Mich fest, Sharida and Natalie.  They are completely amazing peeps.  Brave women still ventured out in the inconsistent rainy weather to purchase their ditc gear.  I appreciated the food brought to me by the Baltimore crew and the coffee provided to me by Licia.  You kept me warm and nourished.  My most favorite customer of the day was comedian Mimi Gonzalez.  She was a complete ball of energy and fun.  She rocked the brown ditc Fedora and promised to sport it in her comedy show that night with Lea Delaria.  That is one funny chica.  Kudos Mimi for making my weekend super entertaining!  That girl has enough energy for 10 and she ain't no youngster.  But you could never tell.   Well it is getting late right now and I need to get ready for the night out, so I will finish writing the rest later.

PHILLY OUTFEST: ALWAYS A BLAST!

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)
Holy crap!  7:30 am leaving time for Philly Outfest.  Too early for me.  I have been running on empty for a while now but must keep trudging along.  I have til mid November before events wind down for a few months. So flying along I 95, I arrive in the streets of Philadelphia.  I love this city but on this day it looked terribly dirty.  Trashier than I imagined.  It was an absolutely beautiful morning though.  And it got even better because the first person I spotted was my ATB Boi!!!   For those of you that don't know, there are various people who have joined forces with the ditc gang along the way and ATB is one of them.  Her real name is Amy and when we met at Michigan Womyn's Fest a few years ago, she began doing all the tattoos for us.  We began to call her Amy Tattoo Boi, which turned into ATB, hence ATB BOI. Redundant, but necessary in life.  Nonetheless, the name has stuck and she is referred to everywhere as ATB.  And she is fucking amazing.  So, she was my helper for the day and we have so much fun together.  And let me tell you, the snrkowitz's were out in the morning.  You will start to understand my lingo and language as you read my blogs.  But you have to keep up with it or you will be like, what?

So anyway, as I go to park the car, I return to see ATB fighting with some homeless dude.  Apparently the one thing we left out from under the canopy was my black suitcase carrying all of my hangers in it.  Well, homeless dude decided that the suitcase was his find and was trying claim it for himself.  This resulted in a suitcase tug-of-war between homeless dude and ATB Boi.  Fucking hilarious!  This is what I return to upon parking the car.  I basically break up the argument and send Mr. Homeless dude on his way.  Good beginning of the day.  It continued throughout the morning with more and more snrkos coming up to the booth until the crowd began to thicken with real live Outfest attendees.  The other piece of good news about the day was that my friends at RIOT GRRRL INK were a few booths away.  My props to Gina and Angie, they are the bomb and they give away free shit!  They are the largest Queer Record Label in the country.  So Philly outfest was a great success!  We talked to so many people all day long.  I love it because the youth come out and support the festival and everyone is so cheery and happy.  Even the protesters were under control this year.  Usually they are a royal pain in the ass but this year, they were just walking around and giving out flyers.  There was one really hot protester girl giving out a flyer that said "I used to be gay" and I wanted to be like, "want to be gay again..." but there was no time for that.  I got to see my very close friend Nathan and his adorable boyfriend Kevin, a treat I get every year at Outfest.  Nearing the end of the day, we chilled with the Sisterspace crowd that camped out in our lounge chairs.  It was great to talk to Carly, Becca, Beth, Jordan, Abney(I call her Cagney), and the rest of the folks accompanying those girls.

Another highlight of the day was Joan, my favorite customer of the day.  She was a girl that had worn the same "Gap" sweatshirt for the last 10 years of her life.  Her friends had been encouraging a clothing makeover for Joan, but Joan was resistant to change as other dykes are in this world.  I am sure you know a few.  Anyway, being the Dennis the Menace that I am, i was giving Joan a hard time.  She finally came back and bought a new dykesinthecity blue/orange hoodie.  I know it was a step in the right direction for Joan.  I was happy to hear from her later that day on my e-mail.  She had gone home and begun to wear her new hoodie in the 80 degree weather and the "Gap" sweatshirt would be retired for all eternity.  Kudos Joan... hope you get some new phone numbers out of the deal!    Many enjoyable people flocked to the Philly Outfest and I encourage all people in the area to go in future years.

After every Philly Outfest, I always go to my favorite Philly restaurant "El Vez."  Parking is a bitch after fest, so I encouraged a cop giving me the look of death to remove her cop car from a spot so I can park.  I felt super good about myself for making a po-po scoot for my Silver Bullet Mini Van and couldn't stop talking about it through dinner.  This place has the best Guacamole in the whole fucking world.  ATB Boi, her girlfriend Leah, and I indulged like never before.  It was like I had never eaten.  Full and feeling good about our meal, I go to leave and find a damn parking ticket on my car.  BASTARDS!!!!  A ticket on a Sunday. I still don't understand it.  Oh well, I still felt too good to even care.  Back home to Baltimore in preparation for one of my favorite weeks in P-town, Women's Week!!!!  This craft fair where dykesinthecity will be selling is at the Unitarian Church this coming Friday and Saturday.  Please visit our booth!

B-more black pride what?

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)
I began my journey from Chi-town on Friday morning, October 5th.  Destination:  B-more Black Pride.  Did I have any prior information on where to go in time for this event?  NO.  I should have taken that as a hint that I was in for a real treat.  Back to the long car ride.  Road Karaoke ensued and I was singing my way to Baltimore.  I am starting to develop a list of songs to sing at future Karaoke nights.  Yes, "Just a Gigolo" isn't enough anymore.  I need to branch out.  Yes, I sing Karaoke and I am damn proud of it.  In addition to that, every song on the radio begins to remind me of my ex girlfriend.  I mean every song from Elliot Yamen to Journey to ZZ tops.  WTF?  Road trips do this to me every time.  And I am on the road constantly.  Time to get out of my head, but looking at trees for 12 hours doesn't cut it.  I know you can relate.  So anyway, with no sleep the night before I am dosing on Sobe energy drinks to make it to Baltimore in time for the first Black Pride event.  I finally arrive in Baltimore and have to call Jacq from "Sugar" to tell me where the hell the event is located.  Amazing! Totally disorganized.  So I arrive to the Sheraton Hotel downtown starving and shaking with hunger but I wanted to get there on time.  I have to say, that this was a meet and greet type event with maybe 50 people tops.  And when i say people, I just mean gay dudes.  No dykes whatsoever.  And in this light it was fine because the men were into the ditc hats, but come on Baltimore.  What happened?  Where was the support for this event?  You go to Chi-town black pride, D.C. Black Pride, Atlanta Black pride, it is teaming with Black Pride and lots of it.  Atlanta may have been one of the most amazing events of this summer.  But to have absolutely minimal support in my home town makes me sad!  I know you are out there black dykes and homos.  But that display was poor and it made me want to talk to someone about who they have on the board!

I needed a drink so badly after that show that I called Jacq again for her to tell me where to go have a drink.  She decided that I go to Club Charles.  It was a fun little excursion.  I spent time hanging out with my new friend Zach who had a thing for boyish looking dykes like me.  I was slightly intrigued by this and slightly grossed out.  But he was cool and we had fun talking about girls including the sexy bartender that I tried to make non-monogamous from her boyfriend by the end of the evening.   She wasn't having it unfortunately but I really wasn't trying too hard.  It was helping me pass the time to flirt.  Personally I think she was scared, but that is just me.  Perhaps I will go back again on Tuesday night when she is working again, but I doubt it.

As far as Black Pride day 2 goes, I was hoping for a different story, but the same thing occurred the next day at the vendor expo/workshops.  It was basically the same attendance and the same people as the night before.  So you might realize that rushing to get into Baltimore was pretty pointless.  Perhaps the nighttime parties created by my girl Dale were in much better attendance.  I am not sure, but i will never do that event again.  Not until something changes to draw in more people.  I would like to give props to my girl Fahtima, a beautiful artist, and my pseudo date for the evening.  As well as my boy Keith who basically supported dykesinthecity that weekend. Perhaps the outdoor event on Sunday was where it was at for B-more Black pride but unfortunately I could not do that portion because i would be on my way to Philly Outfest!

As far as Saturday night goes, I had the pleasure of attending the Charm City Kitty Club performance in Baltimore's Patterson Park area.  It brought back old memories to be passing the house where Erin and I spent several nights in before moving to Ithaca, NY.  Erin would be my 2nd to last ex just so you know she wasn't the one I was spending time thinking about on the road.  No that is someone entirely different and I am sure these blogs will clue you in on my incredibly cray cray life.  But perhaps being single will make things a lot more interesting in the future. So back to what I was saying, the performances were witty and really fun.  The crowd was totally supportive and into it.  It was the first time I was able to attend one of those events and it was well worth it.  It was organized, exciting, lengthy, and I saw half of the people I once knew in Charm City. I love to come back to my old stomping ground.  So the night ended with Bop Pizza and Sappho for a drink.  Off to bed for my next journey, Philly Outfest!

Niki sightings

Niki's been spotted at Baltimore Black Pride and Philly Outfest. Damn that girl gets around. Ooh, did I say that? I'm sure she'll have plenty to report this week so stay tuned. The dykes took over Friendly Farms in good ole' Hampstead, Maryland today. I'm not sure if the staff new quite what to think. Welcome home Laura, even if it was just for a short visit.

I also stopped by Sugar in Hampden. Totally awesome. My friend Jacq owns Sugar and she has done a tremendous job with the place. Great space, great people, great product, and great education. Everything you could want in your sex shop and it's right here. For the locals, check it out! For everyone else, you'll have to wait until the online store goes live. Of course, I will write about that when it happens.

finally....

What up!!!! Welcome to the new ditc blog. We've been talking about it for three years and finally took the time to make it happen. I hope I can come up with enough interesting things to write about to keep you entertained. I'm sure Niki will have plenty to say when she isn't on the road. Tonight she's at the Baltimore Black Pride in Baltimore, MD. She's at Pride partying it up with hotties. I'm sitting in bed typing after having a sob fest watching Private Practice. Yes, you heard that correctly and do not make fun of me! Ok, gotta run.
